PREFACE

This book is for anyone interested in self-reflection, whether you are just beginning your journey or have already explored personal development in depth.

Throughout my life, I have been deeply curious about how to maintain health and happiness in a holistic way. Time and again, I have encountered the profound influence of our emotions and the subconscious mind. Many of the beliefs instilled in us during childhood may not serve us in adulthood; instead, they often develop into limiting patterns.

The subconscious mind operates through repetition, forming automatic responses that we may not even be aware of. As noted in an article from Psychology Today, ’The subconscious only knows what we feed it—so feed it healthy thoughts. And do it repeatedly; repetition is key.‘ (How to Retrain the Negative Athlete Mindset, Psychology Today, October 2022).

Our subconscious can shape behaviours that our conscious mind has overlooked. Entire fields of study, such as psychoneuroimmunology, explore the connection between our emotions and overall well-being. Every stimulus first reaches us at a subconscious level before surfacing into conscious awareness. Over time, our beliefs can become automated, sometimes working against us rather than for us.

Because the subconscious mind communicates in images and symbols, working with visualisation techniques can be a powerful way to reconnect with your inner self.

The self-help techniques in this book have guided me through times of crisis, helping me to regain my inner balance. While this book does not aim to provide an exhaustive explanation of every method—there is already extensive literature on the subject—it serves as a guide to raise awareness of what might still be missing. Through personal insights and encouraging examples, it seeks to inspire you to continue on your path towards achieving your personal goals.

A compass offers direction; the next step is to navigate the journey.

I sincerely wish all readers holistic well-being and inner peace.

With my best wishes, Myriam Adams
